Calgary International Airport has been allocated the official airport code of YYC, and is located within the city of Calgary. It is one of Canada’s busiest airports, and is a hub for several important airline companies. The facilities of the airport are extensive, and include many shops and restaurants, airport lounges, bank machines, tourist information counters, porter services and car hire companies. Enterprise Calgary Airport is one of the car rental companies available, with a large variety of vehicles for hire, and Enterprise’s car rental services are often considered as some of the best.
Calgary Airport is large, but with only a single terminal building. The building is divided into four concourses, and passengers may arrive at any one of these areas. The point of arrival will depend on the origin of the flight and the airline company in charge of the flight. Air Canada and Air Canada Express mostly operate from Concourse B, while the U.S. Preclearance facilities are located in Concourse C. However, flights to and from the United States are found at other concourses as well. No matter the passenger’s concourse of arrival, the Calgary Airport car rental companies are within reach. They are found on the Departure level, across the road from the main terminal, or passengers can use the elevator lobby across the arrivals roadway for access to the car hire companies.
At Calgary Airport, Enterprise is open from 07:00 to 22:30, seven days a week. However, their hours of operation may vary at time to time, and on bank holidays, therefore always confirm your time of collection with the company. Although cars can be hired directly over the rental counters, an advanced online reservation is preferable. Over twelve million passengers pass through Calgary Airport every year, therefore, the Calgary Airport car rental offices can be busy. Customers often receive cheaper rental rates when an earlier reservation is made as well. An advanced booking is required for certain items of equipment for the vehicle, such as Enterprise hand controls for disabled drivers. An early booking is recommended for child seats, satellite navigation systems and ski equipped vehicles as well. Child seats come in various sizes, therefore customers should always specify the age of their child/children. These items of equipment will cost a few CAD to hire when requested from Enterprise at Calgary Airport. Hand controls, however, are free of charge.
The majority of vehicles hired in Canada have an automatic transmission, but sometimes a manual vehicle is available as well. The vehicles may also have air conditioning and AM/FM stereo. Larger vehicles hired have tilt/cruise control. All cars from the Calgary Airport car hire companies are arranged into categories, for example, Economy, Compact, Intermediate, Standard, Fullsize, Premium and Minivan. There are also several categories which contain SUVs. The Ford Escape and Jeep Liberty are Intermediate SUVs, the Ford Explorer and Chevy Trailblazer are Standard SUVs and the Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade are Luxury SUVs. Large SUVs for seven passengers include the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition. Pickup Trucks are quite popular options for hire at Calgary Airport as well, and are similar to the Chevy Colorado, Dodge Dakota, Chevy Silverado and the Ford F150.
The larger vehicles mentioned are quite expensive to hire, but the smaller cars in the Economy and Compact categories are more affordable. They include the Suzuki Swift and the Nissan Versa. Intermediate cars may also have an attractive price, and are similar to the Dodge Caliber and Ford Focus. Additional cars available from Enterprise include the Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata, Chevy Impala, Nissan Altima and Buick Allure. An Enterprise one way hire is when the customer is allowed to return their hire car to a rental location other than Calgary Airport. One way hire services are most often required when customers are leaving from a different airport. The service may be a little more expensive, but is convenient.
The primary renter is expected by Enterprise to be at least twenty-one years of age or older, and should have held a valid drivers license for a year or more prior to the rental date. The license should also show a safe driving record. 25 is actually the age required to rent a car, however, the car hire companies now allow younger drivers access to vehicles, at a higher rental rate. The additional costs are for young drivers insurance, and are applicable per day of car hire, and per young driver registered on the rental agreement. For all vehicles hired, various types of insurance are recommended, and are usually available for purchase from the car hire company concerned. Customers will need a major credit card for payments at the beginning of the rental period, however, sometimes debit cards are accepted for payments due when the vehicle is returned.
Calgary Airport is located to the northeast of the city centre, and the main road leading through the city is the Deerfoot Trail Highway. In the north is the Stoney Train NW Highway, and east of the airport is the Stoney Trail NE Highway. South of the airport, the Trans-Canada Highway runs from west to east through the city, and large roads in the southern areas of Calgary include the Macleod Trail SE and the SE Glenmore Trail. Motorists find the city quite easy to travel, and that all roads are in good condition. Remember to keep to the right-hand side of the road, and to follow the speed limits (50kph in urban areas, 100kph on open roads and 130kph on motorways and highways).
